Re: 67 gmc, need some help

lol, you guys crack me up. Indeed this is the infamous 305 V6 GMC Only motor that was used in our body style trucks.

To the OP, nice project and you sure have your work cut out for you. Good luck!

Re: 67 gmc, need some help

I think i'm set on swapping to a small block right now because money is tight but i am gonna keep on the lookout for V6 stuff so maybe i could do something with the ole 305. As far as a bellhousing could i make an adapter plate? we have all kinds of stuff in the weld shop at work. What do you guys think? i have a 2wd sm465 and bellhousing but i would have to build a crossmember. plus this new process is still actually a pretty tight tranny for as old it is. Also, is the general consensus here say get rid of the split ring rims? i have the factory wheels from my 92 dodge cummins that i think would fit. thanks guys

Yeah, most guys will advise scrapping the lock ring wheels. Problem is, most tire shops don't know how to safely work on them, and they can be deadly if you do it wrong. If you really wanted to keep them, find a shop that works on big rigs and is experienced with split rims.

If those Dodge wheels fit (they should), I would use them.

Re: 67 gmc, need some help

thanks for the advice. I have worked with lock ring rims on the farm but the dodge wheels are just plain gray steelies so i think they whould work fine and nobody have to get hurt! hahaha

Re: 67 gmc, need some help

got a quick question. In the LMC catalog they show the door latch control as being 68-71 then one for 72. Is the 67 that much different? Its on the drivers side, it broke years ago and after dad using vise grips and welding bolts to it I would like to replace it. Any ideas? thanks
