62 straight 6 v8 conversion question

My friend has a 1962 shortbed i6 3 on the tree hydra clutch (all orginal 80k no rust truck..hes going to do a v8 swap what issues will he face as far as the clutch goes, motor mount location etc.. the truck has the older style setup...any input would be nice

Here's are a couple of links that will help. Almost everything applies, except the type of engine you are removing. Captainfab offers a plate for the hydraulic clutch that looks better than the item I designed.

I'm assuming his '62 currently has a 235 or 261 in it now? That being the case, if he wants to use the original transmission, he will need an adapter plate. The older transmission will not bolt up to an SBC or BBC. It would be easier and probably cheaper to go with an automatic trans, IMO.

the trans will bolt up to a later bellhouing. it is the 235-261 bellhousing that will not bolt up to a 63 and up eng. an early 283 b/housing will bolt to the later eng. what you do need to simplify things is a 60-62 v8 bellhousing from a 283-348 eng that has the pass side opening for the clutch linkage (hydraulic) light and med duty trucks 60-62 would use that bellhousing

This same swap was just recently done on my '62. I had to change out the bellhousing to a V-8 style. It bolted right in using the stock '62 crossmember and mounts. With the motor bolted to the bellhousing, this gave me the location to drill the frame to attach the stock style side motor mounts. A 1" spacer was needed between the motor mount and truck frame as mentioned above. I opted to swap out the hyd. clutch to a Z-bar assembly out of a '64 C-10. Plugged the hyd. side of the master cylinder, dropped in some block hugger headers. Hope this helps.

I kept the hyd clutch but built a simple bracket for the slave cylinder to mount on the 63-72 bell housing , if all else is good it is a simple bracket , I made with a hack saw and drill , when I was 14 (a real long time ago ) If you need a pic I might be able to find one If you want to be period correct the engine would have had a horse shoe mount to the crossmember
