Shop Truck Signs.....How??

Looked through the "shop truck" pics here. Lots of nice signs on them and some real creativity! I'd like to get a sign on my door, but here's the problem. I'm not an artist. What kind of simple computer software do you use to do a layout. You know, some nice fonts and designs? Getting it on the truck will be easy, as I've seen a pounce wheel, paper, and powder used.
There are various sign making software out there but it's expensive for a 1 or 2 time use. I just want to be able to print something off my HP and Mac. Any ideas?

Thanks
Raymo

Maybe an old school projector! But you need to laminate the picture to project it on the door or piece of paper hanging on the wall and trace.

or take the picture to a sign shop to enlarge and make you a template for LH and RH side

just some thoughts im throwing out there

Yea, I've see it done w/ a projector. You'd have to find a projector and that might be tough. If you could layout the sign in a computer then print it out on a printer you can use the cheap pounce wheel and chalk and have your pattern on the door. A lot of flame painters use this. The tough part is finding a free sign layout program to do it. Some thing that gives you those old time fonts and a way to maybe bend the letters and so forth.

Do you have a particular idea in mind? The guys in the Photoshop Forum might be able to do something for you. Give us some info about the text you would like to see and any other details needed. If you have a good shot of your truck it could even be "installed" to give you an idea of how it could look.

Re: Shop Truck Signs.....How??

Thanks Guys for the comeback
My idea is to fool around with the layout myself and Longhair you did answer part of my question. Those guys are using Photoshop to do a layout.
Bruceman, thanks for the thread-thats where I got my idea!! I've studied that tutorial a lot.
I'm not making myself to clear I think. Let me give you an example. Long time ago on a old computer one of my kids had some software that you could print banners, cards, signs etc. So I used the examples of some different sign examples and printed a small sign using about 4 sheets of regular paper, then I just taped them together. Well I don't have any idea what the program was so now I'm trying to find some freeware that will do this. The rest is easy! Some program that you can size the letters and manipulate the text. Adobe Photoshop is some high dollar software that I don't really want to buy for this project.
In those pics off the "patina'd trucks" thread , the guys got his paper with design on it.....but sounds like he drew it and used carbon paper to put it on. Well my drawing skills leave a lot to be desired! So I'm looking for the easyyyyyy way.

Re: Shop Truck Signs.....How??

Raymo I'll follow your lead but if we could save the pic to a thumb drive then run it to kinkos/staples I bet they could make it any size we want for cheap..and on one sheet of paper!!!

I was going to Look on the web for a basic design/pic to start with what do you have in mind ...anything ??? I'm inda lost where to even start
