Re: Resembling the front suspension hit kinda small problem

Have a buddy sit/stand on the chassis up front for extra weight when jacking up the LCA.

Check to see the spring is seated properly top and bottom...especially the top (to ensure it is in the cup).

Check to see that the lower ball joint is not getting hung up on the spindle.

Perhaps loosen the upper ball joint nut...it looks rather tight...might help to do them all loosly, then go back and tighten things up.

Re: Resembling the front suspension hit kinda small problem

is the spring properly seated in the frame and LCA? we had spring compressors that we used the last time i did this kind of thing on an 87 Monte Carlo and that worked AFAIR

Ding Ding We have a winner! Good catch the lower ball joint has a bigger shaft that the upper. If you still have trouble Use a sturdy chain and sturdy jack.Loop the chain over the frame and around the axle on the jack to prevent the frame from picking up and making the spring compress. Jay

When you get the spindle on correctly if you still have the problem loosing the upper ball joint nut will lower the spindle and might give you the extra you need to get the nut on the lower ball joint.

HAD THAT SAME PROBLEM PUTTING NEW STOCK COILS IN MY 69 1 TON WRECKER. PRETTY STOUT & THEY DON'T COMPRESS FOR FOR NOTHING. HAD TO TIE MY FRONTEND DOWN TO COMPRESS THE SPRINGS ENOUGH WITH A FLOOR JACK TO START THE THREADS ON THE BALL JOINT. JOHN

Re: Resembling the front suspension hit kinda small problem

not sure if this will work for you but it has for me ,say you are working on the drivers front ball joint, brace it under it to keep from dropping lower....brace the pass front ,and drivers rear, for support and use the jack on the pass rear opposite to the (soon to be installed new bj).raise and lower the jack opposite corner to the ball joint being installed, let the car pivot on the other two corners........

Re: Resembling the front suspension hit kinda small problem

Do this a different way. Do not jack the lower arm up to the truck. Put the jack under the truck and the lower arm on top of a block and use the truck's weight to compress the spring. In other words jack the truck up and down, not the A-arm. It works better.

That only works if there is a "truck" mounted on the frame.
