Barn Doors or Tailgate?
which ones are more desirable?
I like the barn doors, easier to load, but are their other pros-cons between the 2? |

Re: Barn Doors or Tailgate?
I personally like the tailgate look... it's a "cleaner" look IMO... and also the window rolls down. And the barn doors have the middle support in which blocks some of your view; when you look in the rearview mirror.

Re: Barn Doors or Tailgate?
Tailgate all the way. "Tailgating" is just not the same with barn doors

Re: Barn Doors or Tailgate?
I prefer the barn doors. You don't have to deal with the tailgate window getting stuck or not working. In the 89-91's you could get them with defrost, too.
Since you are in MO, you may want to try to find a 'burb with both rear heat and A/C. Rear heat is probably a lot more prevalent up there, and it works really well.

Re: Barn Doors or Tailgate?
I like the barn doors because I like to haul stuff and it easier to load. I agree with the window problems you can have with a tailgate.

Ditto. Incidently, by way of trivia, the barn doors were base (ie, "ZW9 - base body") and the tailgate was optional ("E52 - One piece liftgate with lift glass"). I'd say the tailgate option was definitely the high runner. K

Re: Barn Doors or Tailgate?
I agree with many comments before, it's a personal preference. I've owned 2 suburbans the first had a tailgate and the window didn't work very well. but it's a much cleaner look and have a better view without the barn door pillars in the way. My second suburban which I just sold had the barn doors and I do think make it easier to load. And I also agree find one with a removable rear seat and rear AC and heat controls.

Re: Barn Doors or Tailgate?
Thanks all.. I think I like the barn doors for ease of loading/unloading.. and that is more important than looks at this point. I must be getting old!

Re: Barn Doors or Tailgate?
Absent of inherent problems, its pure personal choice. I'd put the rear access at the bottom of the list personally. When I found one perfect inside and out the way I wanted it, I wouldn't care which it had.

Re: Barn Doors or Tailgate?
I have both and there is not really that big of a diff, i do like that my 4x4 has barn doors because of the ease of opening doors...If you wanted to lift yours any, I would say barn doors.

Re: Barn Doors or Tailgate?
have had both, barn doors better for me,dog liked the window down but fumes would be bad at some speeds, around here just the tailgates(used) are a hard find.
