Tie Rods

Im putting a saginaw power steering box from a 67-87 chevy truck on my 66. Can i keep my same tie rods and tie rod adjusting sleeves? Do I have to buy power steering tie rod adjusting sleeves? What is the difference in the two sleeves anyway?

Re: Tie Rods

Why would he need to fool with the tie rods ? Just the steering box and pitman arm.

Re: Tie Rods

The '66 draglink will fitup to the '69-'87 power steering box pitman arm. Or if you prefer change the whole steering linkage to the '69-'87 style. You will need to locate and drill holes in the frame for the later style idler arm. Not hard to do. I see absolutely no reason to buy those expensive aluminum tie rod adapter sleeves.

Re: Tie Rods

I did a complete tear down of the frame including the entire K-member. I figured I might as well replace the tie rod ends and sleeves while everything was out. I figured it was still the original parts in there from 1966 cause the ball joints still had rivets in em.

Re: Tie Rods

If you're going to that extent then yes I would replace all the wear parts if your budget allows. If it isn't in the budget then replace just what needs to be. Something to consider if you're replacing everything is I believe the '73-'87 steering linkage (tierods, sleeves, etc) are a little beefier than the original parts.
