'87 4x4 Dual Shock question

I've searched with no luck in finding anything out on this, so I thought I would ask.

Does anyone know of a way to eliminate the factory dual shock setup on the '87 4x4 1/2 ton? It seems like a waste of money, and I have read several times that they are a waste, as they don't really help the ride. I need to replace mine, and would like to buy 4 to put on the entire truck, not just 4 for the front end.

Any thoughts, advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
