Brian:
Your rig is looking nice. Did you get the rear bumper painted and installed? How about some pictures with the new chrome dog dish caps? Hopefully, they cleaned up nice with some chrome polish and steel wool. Nice work! |

Re: Newbe here first classic Proud owner of a 65 Fleetside
Here is an illustration of the rear bumper brackets. Hang everthing loose and then tighten, once you have all the nuts, bolts and washers on. You need item number 8, Fleetside Rear Bumper brackets. Come by the shop on Sunday and I can help you and also give you some new Grade 8 nuts and bolts, to attach the bumper brackets to the frame. I forgot to give you those last week, since I didn't have the brackets.

Re: Newbe here first classic Proud owner of a 65 Fleetside
trucks lookin good man! im new to the resto game as well so i was wonderin how you were plannin on doin the frame and cab floor fix and paint?
after a pricey waste of time (and some lessons learned) with and earl scheib'd 66 c10 rust bucket...i picked up a running 63 long fleet for $750, with solid cab floors, no rot on the frame, and 62k original miles on th L6 (score!)...its gonna be my daily driver as well so i was thinking of prepin and sealing the whole inner cab and frame with KBS rust preventative coatings...seems like good decently priced stuff and apparently it's good enough to hold up in the most wonderful and absolutely non frustrating, chicago winter weather... anyway, throw up some pics of the cab and frame when you get to em man...be cool to see how you go about tacklin it Last edited by valero; 11-27-2009 at 09:42 PM. |

Re: Newbe here first classic Proud owner of a 65 Fleetside
Well with no welder right now im thinking about cutting out the rust and rivet sheet metal in there just to be solid safe and closed up plus whos gonna see it lol i dont want no show truck! I just want a clean cool daily so i think ill go that way for now then later weld it in the right way...
When its time for paint im goin with some Metalic Satin paint with a ed roth flake job on the roof, door panels and dash....

Re: Newbe here first classic Proud owner of a 65 Fleetside
Thanks man I just wanted it to hide the rust a lil and get it one color so i only put one coat of paint because im still working on it...
I used the good stuff Duplacolor from wallymart i say i used .......20 cans of satin black and thats in the bed and under the hood and door jams then two cans of flat white primer and just did a fender here a bed side there dont burn your self out. one can will cover so much up ,if you use the good stuff. Just buy six at a time ,thats how much comes in a box and thats about 20 bucks or less, a roll of blue tape and what ever paper i could find around the house...... Im gonna go with a light color when my truck is all solid but that satin black hides that rust good! I tried a cheap can of flat black it took a whole can for one spot on the fender and it looked like primer gray so just get the good stuff... I hope this helped you out... 12 to 15 cans for the out side should do it... Post pics when you start i wanna see
