Tranny fluid change question

I kno everyone does things a little different, but im about to change my trans fluid and change the filter out on my truck on Sat, I was just wondering if you guys like to use the gasket? Ive heard some people dont use them and just silicone, then i ve heard some people use them with out silicone, so lets hear some suggestions guys!!!!

When i do mine i allways buy the AC Delco trany kit and i use the gasket dry no sealant.

If your trany is a 700R4 DO NOT USE ANY SEALANT! there is a small fluid return port very close to the pan lip and if it gets stopped up with sealant it will cause the trany to FAIL.

no matter what year of tranny i'm changing the fluid and filter of i never ever ever use silicon to seal the pan. i always use the gasket. i prefer the rubber type. that way if i ever have to drop the pan again i don't have to fight the gasket to get it scrapped off.

rubber they don't have to be scraped off after they're hot like the cork, unless you leave them on for a year...or ten..... shame, shame, shame

also check the pan it self,it might be worped from over tighting the bolts.put a straight edge on there and check that and your good

This is why i use only AC DELCO trans kit's the gasket that comes in them looks sorta like cork but it's got some sorta coating on it and they never need sealant and they never leak.Oh and they just peel right off the next time you chng your oil.

As mentioned befor just dont over torque the bolts and ck the pan lip for trueness.

The torque converter will still have the old fluid in it when you drop the pan. The quick change oil places can pump it all out (tranny and torque converter) in reverse (which back flushes the filter) and you never have to take the pan off.

I've had trouble with the rubber gaskets leaking. If you use cork and tighten the bolts the the spec'd 12 ft/lbs you'll be good to go. You have to crush that rubber gasket a little more to keep it from leaking, I had to step it up to 25 ft/lbs but that stopped the leak.

I've used both types, I've never used any silicone. I've always used the NAPA kit.

well i find that its always a good idea to remove the pan and check/replace the filter. i've dropped a couple pans that didn't leak to either find the filter is either collapsed/busted or laying in the bottom of the pan(last 2 th350's actually). so i would go a head and change out the gasket and filter then take it in to have the tranny flushed all the way

I get it at a autopart store here called Bennett auto supply but there a Florida base store but any auto parts store that handels the AC Delco line should have them i allways specify AC Delco

All great answers!!! Im getting ready to change the fluid and filter tomorrow so I just wanted to see how some of you guys are doing it. unfortunatley I could not find the AC Delco trans filter and gasket kit here in texas so i had to go with the kit that o'reillys carrys and im used to the cork gaskets and have never used the rubber ones before, and this kit i just pick up had the rubber one in it so i guess ill just give that one a try and hope for the best.
