dash cap ideas

my das pad on my 80 is all cracked to s@!# and i was looking at it and noticed it was backed by a shaped metal peice could i possably strip it down to the metal and paint it and runn it and would it look good or do that but glass it and paint it or clean it up fill in the seams and glue some leater or the like on it any ideas would be great and additionally what can i do to save my door panels there not too bad but they need help thanks in advance

you have to either cap it cover it or glass it for it to look like anything the metal base doesnt look right with nothing on it

yea, the metal has a lot of small holes in it for the foam to adhere too. we have a burn pike for trash and i burnt mine, only leaving the metal shell for the scrap pile

I have two dashes, the better of the two has a crack in the middle so I took the really bad one to an interior shop and had them color match for less than the price of a new dash. It came out great.

Have you looked in to a carpet or velour dash mat. $35 will make it look a lot better until you come up with another option.

I had mine covered also and was cheaper than a new dash and even cheaper than a dash pad.

I think the dash alone was about $80 ish. The whole interior was somewhere around $650.

It's "pleather" but is very comfy and easier to take care of than real leather.
