What would happen if.......
What would happen if I put a set of shocks designed for a 3" drop spring, on my front suspension even though I was running a 2" drop spring?

Re: What would happen if.......
It could bottom out. If this happens to often, it will destroy the seals in the shock, and could rip the shock loose.
That's worse case scenario. Did you check the part number? It's possible the same shock is called for in either applcation.

Re: What would happen if.......
I actually had 3 in drop springs with matching shocks from cpp. I ran this setup with 2 1/2 in drop spindles, and found that I needed to raise the truck up a bit. I installed the 2 in springs with the shorter shocks. I get alot of bump steer, but I cant see how the shocks could cause that.
I guess I could put the 3in springs back on... |

Re: What would happen if.......
It's possible you could reach the maximum extension on the shock. However before you change back to your 3" springs you can check your suspension travel limits. If the bump stops/limiters limit the suspesion before the shock over extends or fully compress then you should be ok. Just remember the bump stops may deflect a bit more under driving conditions then when in your garage on a jack.

Re: What would happen if.......
A 2 inch drop spring runs ALOT shorter shock (part# 1200gll) the 2" drop runs a (part#4809) and i am at home and not at work so i dont have my chart but the collapsed and extended measurements are quite a bit different, i dont suggest it. Fell free to call me at the shop during buisness hours for exact specs.

Re: What would happen if.......
I have run this setup for a while now, and the ride is not as smooth as it used to be.
When I had the 3in springs installed the tires would rub the inner fender wells. I wonder if the new cpp spindles would help? I have aset of Mcgaughys spindles now. |

Yes the new spindle we made is for exact issues like the one you have. This will cure your issue for sure.

Re: What would happen if.......
I installed a set of correct length KYB shocks today. Got rid of the bump steer and rides great! Smoothest riding vehicle in my fleet now!
