79 GMC build..
Well my son and i started last weekend on the tear down. My son will be attending WyoTech in Sacarmento in August so he is rebuilding this truck to drive up there. We pulled off the front end and have took out motor and trans. The motor had giant mounds of build up in the valley and the tranny is a Th-400. We are still tearing down the front end. My son will be putting all new polyurethane bushings from energy suspension, he will also be rebuilding the 305 plans to put a RV cam and get some exhaust work done on it also. The truck will be painted in Trim Black paint just like his cadillac. Well here are some progress pics keep coming back for more updates.

Also found some lovely cab rot. Never knew it was there just another thing added on the list of things that need to be done..

Even with that small rust area, that's a pretty solid truck to work with. I love those shortbed fleetsides. It looks like you guys are going in the right direction. What are your plans for the style? A budget driver or a customized cruiser?
It looks like somebody used Quaker State and never changed the oil. Today's oils are so much better, and you don't see gunk that like much anymore. No worries, 350s are the cheapest engine you'll ever rebuild. Keep us posted with pictures! |

The style will be a little different. My son is going to put on sum stock tires with a little white wall and some dog dish caps. Eventually when he gets out of shcool we will paint it white with a red pearl. He also plans to order some droped shackels for the rear to get it just a little lower. The motor is a 305 not 350 but will be easy to build, my son just recently built his 350 that hes going to put in his cadillac. Its not hard to do at all he says, but i have never done it myself.

I know I havent posted, but i will get my son to post up latest work done to the 79. we took the whole a-frame off to clean and paint, it was a filthy looking thing! Besides we're gonna put new bushings and all the other rubber under the cab and sway bar, polyurethane, red ones. I painted the firewall and part of frame today, gonna clean up the frame a little more before I finish painting it. I know, it aint worth anything w/out pics, but I will POST!

still working on it and doing some painting, been busy with other projects around the house, ya'll know, "honey-dos". will post pics though son is pretty busy also with other projects, for hes the computer wizard around the house, I just don't know how to post pics.
