70 CST....Deal or no deal.

This is my latest acquisition and I feel like I did pretty good for $350.00. No motor, no trans.....but good, mostly rust free AC cab. There are a few problem spots but no major patch work needed. Cab mounts are solid.

Should I part out? It seems a waste. I've got access to a 425 caddy BB for next to nothing with only 50,000 original miles.....this really seems like the route to go. What do you guys think?

My vote is SAVE IT. Looks like a solid well optioned truck. Too good to part out any further. Nice find.

First thing I would do is pressure wash it inside and out, clean it up and see what it really looks like. That seems to be an unusual color combo (sans the blue) and pretty solid truck.

Re: 70 CST....Deal or no deal.

scrub the crap off of it, polish it up, get rid of the blue roof, and slap the caddy motor in there. It should have a 3.07 gear in the rear which the cad motor will love.

Re: 70 CST....Deal or no deal.

Thank you very much for the positive responses gentlemen...........that is EXACTLY what I wanted to hear. I'll get back real soon with some pics after the power-wash/scrub. The way I look at it, there is always room for one more project.

Any tips on the 425 conversion?

Re: 70 CST....Deal or no deal.

What you really need to do is send me that AC unit and Power steering setup... Nothing better than parallel parking on a hot summer day... But seriously, keep it!

Re: 70 CST....Deal or no deal.

i like the truck i dont have tips for the 425 caddy v8 but i think u should do it, the caddy v8 usually were pretty torquey, at least the 472 and 500 not sure same motor family. good luck!

I think there is a thread on the caddy swap in the Engine and Drivetrain section of the FAQ Forum.

I like the parallel parking idea......but I'm a "roll em' down" kind of guy. We hit the upper 90's here just about every year here in AR that I can remember, but I have AC in my newer rides and rarely use it. And I like the look of a clean, uncluttered engine bay. Heat on the other hand......gotta have it.

From what I have read in other threads on the topic.....the 425 is very torquey and it is in the same family as the 472's and 500's just less displacement. Good solid, high nickel blocks. Although, Caddy parts don't come too cheap.

LockDoc
I think I read it.......I'll check again. But it seemed like when I clicked on a link with vital information, the site was down or it was an old unactive page.

Either way, I'll figure it out. It seems LongHornMan is the one holding all the keys. Most of the guys want the 500, LongHorn was the one advocating the 425 and its potential.

Thank you everyone for your input.
