bbc swap
Hello all,
New to board but have read a good few threads. Putting BBC in 64. Already had SB. What is the ECE mount one person referred to? Said he would have gone with it over the POL version for more header clearance. Thinking of using BBC towers with the cheaper SB rubber mounts. Going with a T56 tranny. Thanks Brian |

Re: bbc swap
Welcome to the forums
You can also use the '73-'87 mounts for your big block install. Take a look in the 'Projects and Builds' section at protrash64's 1964 Suburban pics thread. Those are what he's using for his BB install. I prefer to use the '73-'87 motor mounts when possible. They are better mounts IMO.

Re: bbc swap
Appreciate the info. Was just curious as to who is getting the most exhaust clearance, the late model mounts or the tubular style by POL and such.
Anybody else done the 6 speed? |

Brian
I was going to do the BBC swap with factory mounts, but they were to low and the oil pan hit the crossmember. I have not seen the ECE stands, I search on their site but they do not show them... Were in Longview are you? I live in Spring Hill area.

Re: bbc swap
Yea Karl I noticed a big block (core) in your first pics of your truck. Noticed the perches were in the front holes. You say it sat too low huh? I'm gonna try to pick up some late model mounts and play with it some. Like you I'm anxious to get mine going again. I've got a couple BBC's, running them in my jetboat. I've got a nice late model ( 1 piece rear main)4bolt main .030 over SB with the complete serpentine set up, distributor, wires, everything, if you know someone in our area looking. I was gonna put this motor in the truck with the 6 speed, but now It's Big Block or No Block
By the way, you work near Longview Airport? I know theres a coil manufacturer over near me. |

Re: bbc swap
I actually work over on Gum Springs Road, between Eastman Road and Cotton, at AAON Coil Products.
I am going to post some pics of the mounts I have in this section some time today. Yes, I did have mine in the front location and it sat to low, but I may not have had the correct mounts that bolt to the block...

Re: bbc swap
Here is the clearance with the tube type engine mounts. The Headers are Hedman Elites.

Chevy Fleetside- was it you that said you went with tube type
but would use the ECE type if done over again? I didnt see anything but ls type mounts on their site. Are you happy with yours? Notice theyre in the back holes also?

Re: bbc swap
I bought that new from summit. It is for 88 and up. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-19172805/ Of course I didn't pay that much for it at that time. I figured if I got a used unit with over 100,000 miles on it, I would be replacing stuff anyway. So I went new.

I'm using the ECE mounts in a 65 chevy with a 2006 5.3l. I've set the engine in so far and from what I can tell the exhaust manifold flanges are hitting the frame a little on the drivers side. I'm hoping to just clearance the frame a bit.

Re: bbc swap
I put a 454/th400 in my 63. knowing now what I did not then I would have done it a bit different, especially around the fire wall, when its stated there is little clearance that is an understatement, What I would do is get a portion of a 67 and latter fire wall and graft it in place of the 66 and older. Done correctly you can retain the brakes and delux heater.
