Jack For Truck

I need a jack for the truck. What are you guys using. I thought about getting a 2 ton floor jack, and carry it in the bed. I need to build a box for the spare also. I plan to drive the truck from Joliet, IL. to Texas next August for the Good Guys car show. What is a good jack, and where do I buy it.

Re: Jack For Truck

A shop floor jack would be handy to have with you and if you kinda need one anyway.

Something like this would be smaller to be packing around. JMO

Re: Jack For Truck

Why not add a spare tire carrier under the bed?

BTW... I'd recommend going to the Des Moines Goodguy's.

Re: Jack For Truck

I may put a carrier under the bed. The wheel is a 20 inch one with a big tire.
It would be real hard for me to handle. The tire is about 10 inches wide.
Thanks

Re: Jack For Truck

I forgot you had a spare that matched the other set of wheels on the truck. A carrier under the bed will not work for that type of application.

I use a 6 ton bottle jack from Northern tools, and a small brick. Fits behind seat on passenger side.

I wouldn't use a clay brick. It doesn't take much pressure to break one. I like to use cut up pieces of 2x8,10,12.

Re: Jack For Truck

Thanks guys. I decided to get a scissor jack for the truck. I was trying to find a good one when I realized that I had one in the garage. It is a heavy duty one. I had it in a box. I take it with me when I go and cut my land with my zero turn mower. I need to weld a socket in it so I can crank it up with a 1/2 inch ratchet.

I carry a somewhat similar jack and a couple of foot long pieces of 2x6. Sometimes I remember to carry the spare. Don't forget to carry a correct for the wheels and lug nuts lug wrench setup. Also the stock jacks for these trucks still work pretty well in most cases.

Re: Jack For Truck

I hit a local pick and pull and found a never used scissor jack out of a Dakota that I slid under the seat. As for the spare mounting, here's a few pics of how I did mine:
