What is this?

1979 K10, 350, TH350, NP203.

I was cleaning out the linkage and found this random wire dangling. What could it be to?

Re: What is this?

follow it.

it looks like it could be for the low range indicator in the dash, was it going under the truck between the floor and the t-case shifter boot?

edit: the back up switch is on the column, we are looking at an auto

Re: What is this?

Well, I could tell the PO had taken off that panel shortly before I bought it and it was wedged between the access panel and the floor.

Re: What is this?

I have a similar plug like that hanging down between the frame and the dr side gas tank. Except mine has two holes (yours appears to have one). My truck is a 1987 350/th400 4x4, and everything appears to work.

That looks like a T-400 kickdown connector that plugs into the driver side rear area of the T-400.

Re: What is this?

It's a THM350 so the down shift is a cable. Back up lamps are on the colunm as is neutral start switch (in one switch) Is it possible it could be for a TCC? Look on the left side of the trans case for a connector (probably white) with 2 spades sticking out. I don't remember when they started with TCC transmissions. Jim

God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.

The th400 could have been swaped to a th350 or it could be for the tq converter lock on a th350C. I think '79 was the first year for the th350C. The th350C will have a plug on the passenger side of the trans near the dipstick tube and cooler lines.

I know the 700-R4 shares the same plug opening size in the case as the T-400 since you can use the T-400 plug on the 700-R4 when doing a transplant to wire up the TCC function. Makes sense that the T-350C used the same plug too.

Sounds like somebody swapped out an earlier T-350 for a worn out T-350C and just put the unused plug out of the way.

Re: What is this?

It looks just like the plug for the 4wd switch that bolts on to the Tcase shifter.

Re: What is this?

my '78 203/400 has the same mystery connector hanging down.

i'm thinking its a low-range indicator.

i had always noticed it dangling around when i looked around the t-case area, and when i pulled the carpet i found it running along the floor and under the shift boot.

try hooking 12v up to it while the truck is not running and see if it lights anything in the dash up. and let me know!

ed. and my kickdown functions just fine without it connected.
