And the body comes off how?
When and if the weather stops sucking around here, I will go out and check out the frame on my '72 K10 again and decide which way to go with it. The body is so bad that I may end up just having to buy a shell in TX, NM, AZ, etc. and drag it back here. Either way, the body has to come off. I cut most of the mounting bolts last fall, and I kind of figured I would have to use some 4"x4" s and some creative use of jacks and slowly lift it up high enough to roll the frame out from under it. My "shop" is a 20'x60' tension fabric building (actually a converted tobacco greenhouse) so the rafters barely hold the weight of the snow that's sitting on them now, so I can't hoist the body. How have you guys done it?

Re: And the body comes off how?
I had a 'Burb I parted out once, and since I wasn't saving any of the body, I cut it into small enough pieces to handle. On the other hand, it took 9 of us to lift the body off my Panel. Well, I called 7 friends and 1 brought a helper. But that takes lots of bee-uh-bribes

Re: And the body comes off how?
Here is how you do it. First go over and around it ten times to make sure nothing is attached to the frame or drive train. Get a bunch of family and friends together right before lunch time. Feed em pizza and beverages when they get the job done...its fun =)
Lift And separate Smile for the camera...then go eat lunch =)

I was hoping there was some kind of secret, like how they moved the blocks to build the pyramids, or put up those huge heads on Easter Island.

Re: And the body comes off how?
I did a body swap a few months back. Two of us did it in two Saturdays. You will need about 30-40 cinder blocks and two 6x6 timbers to span the width of the burb. (We tried using a 4x4 timber and it broke.) To do it again I would just get a bunch of buddies to help. We worked way harder than we should have. You have to get the body over the tires. It may be easier if you take the wheels off and set the frame down on a set of blocks. Good luck, you will need it!

Re: And the body comes off how?
I use a engine lift to get it up then 6x6's and I built some steel saw horses for under the rockers to hold it. I don't have a picture of the front but just use the threaded holes in th cowel.

Re: And the body comes off how?
I put a rolling floorjack under the rear differental and jacked it all the way and then supported the rear of the body there on cinder blocks and wood blocking. Then I raised the front of the body up with an engine hoist attached to the inner fender bolts on the cowling. Next I supported the front of the body on a 6x6 and made sure that the cinder blocks under the 6x6 were wider than the wheelbase, and the bottom of the 6x6 must be higher than the height of the tires. I then lowered the floor jack in the rear and rolled the chassis out the front. It can easily be done by just one person. I would not try this on anything but an asphalt or concrete fairly level work area. Good luck with your project! Post lots of pictures for us!!
P.s. I used 12" blocks for a little extra stability.

Re: And the body comes off how?
Lots of cool ideas, keep 'em coming! My problem will end up being that I have basically no rockers left to set the body on, so that may end up answering the question about the body.

Re: And the body comes off how?
I dont believe that you would want to set it on the rockers anyway. On top of the 6x6 in the front, I put 6x6 blocks on top of it, under the body rails.

Re: And the body comes off how?
This is what I set mine on. I had all this steel, so all it cost was a little bit of welding. Oh-and some cheap harbor frieght casters:
Not to sure if it shows, but I used some C clamps and vise grips to hold the body to the rack. It was pretty stabile, but I'm not taking any chances.

Re: And the body comes off how?
I got lucky with mine and had access to a lift. Check out my avatar pic to see how it was done.

Re: And the body comes off how?
A 6x6 beam is kinda heavy and the strength is questionable..... When my son and I did a 62 pickup, we used pipes and 8816 cinder blocks. For stability you build each level of the column with pairs of blocks and turn every level 90 degrees to the one below. With a burb or panel, I'd either find good support locations under the very rear or bolt a couple of rails thru the floor and out the rear. I'd get the rear up first, then in front, it would be a piece of pipe across the firewall lifting two chain loops bolted to the two kickboard body rails. The pipe gets lifted only eight inches per block layer. As stated in nother post, set the block columns far enough apart to roll the chassis between. Short wheels and tires so you don't hafta go up as high

Re: And the body comes off how?
I also got lucky and borrowed a two post lift. Due to needing to be in and out we rolled it in on one trailer lifted the body off. Pulled the trailer with the chassis out and backed in the trailer to set the body on. Due to my poor planning the body was set on the trailer with the railing so in the pic you can see the stacks of used tires we had to set it on.
Put the body back on pretty much the same way. About a month ago I added a 4 post to my home shop so I should be able to do it here from now on. Josh

Re: And the body comes off how?
Mine is sitting on a section of pallet racking with rollers so I can roll it in and out of my shop. I have since cut the height of the racking in half, as the bottom of the truck is finished. I used the main beam of my shop with a chain hoist on each end of the truck to lift it off the frame.
