1990 C1500 285K miles speedometer issues
Hello to all,
I am new to this forum so please bare with me. I bought a C1500 some time ago. When I bought it the speedometer did not work among many other things. I have search all over but I am still stuck and hopefully someone can help me. OK here we go, I replaced the speed sensor, I was not getting a signal at the cluster terminal. Still no speedometer and odometer. I check all of the wiring and the fuses all that I can find are ok. I then replaced the cluster with one from a junk yard. same problem. I have learned one thing that may be of importance. the speed sensor and transmission is out of a 91 to 93 camaro. the sensor is different than the original inductive type. The current sensor and transmission match up but I don't know about the cluster. Another weird thing, there is no fault code from either the ECM or the Anti-lock module. If I unplug the cluster and turn the key to RUN I get a code 8 and nothing else. In my quest to solve this problem I have found several plugs (wires) disconnected and I have restored those according to a factory schematic. Any input would be a big help. Thanks,Dave |

G'day and welcome from down under.
Plz tell us some more about your trucks and maybe some pix. If you are looking for some specific info it is best to hunt down the right section - and of course if you have pix it will help. These guys are a great resource and seem to be able to fix almost anything.

Re: 1990 C1500 285K miles speedometer issues
Hello Lara, Thanks For the welcoming, My home town is Melbourne, FL USA. The Name came from Melbourne AU. The Founders were from there. SO I guess we are sort of connected. I do not have any pics yet, I hope to soon though. I currently own a 91 c1500 and a 95 G20 conversion van. My goal is to get as many miles as I can out of both vehicles. The G20 has 205K on it now and is all original. My last car to get over 300K was an 89 Cadillac. My son crashed it at 396K. I am going for 500K on my C1500.
I have search all over for a solution to my speedometer problem but have had no luck. This weekend I am going to hook up my laptop and see what is going on with the ECM and the ABS. I want to see if they are getting a speed signal. If they are then My problem is in the speedometer and odometer circuit of the cluster. Those parts are going to be almost impossible to find. I am still hoping that someone will have another possible solution for me! Dave! |

Try posting a specific thread in the Electrical section http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...splay.php?f=64
or whichever is best suited. Remember to give the specifics... good luck
