wheel fitment

Greetings all, after finishing my frame and drivetrain on my 67 SWB. Iam ready to choose my wheels and tires, I like the 18" front 20" rear combos, question is what size fits and looks good. I have not yet lowered the truck, wanted to nail down the wheel and tire issue first. If anyone has any pics of this combo and there suspension info, It would be appreciated. I like the torque thrust M series with the silver centers, polished lip. The truck is being painted to its original color of Siera Fawn, I think it would look sweet. many thanks!

Re: wheel fitment

Tell us what you have.
Still 6-lug drums on all 4 corners?
Switching to 5-lug?
Drops spindles require converting to disc brakes.

I usually recommend doing the suspension first,... and then buying wheels.

Re: wheel fitment

What lolife99 said. do the suspension first. After you see how much lower it sits you can choose the right size tire for it.

Re: wheel fitment

Thanks guys! Iam using a 71 frame so going to be utilizing the front disk rear drum 5 lug. Right now I have a gmpp 502 BBC and turbo 400. On the aftermarket drop springs when they say they lower the front 2 inches, is that rating any different when installing a big block? I just didnt want to order the wrong springs. thanks

Re: wheel fitment

I think ECE sells small block and big block specific springs.
I'm not sure about anyone else.
How low are you going?
3/4, 4/6, 5/7 drop?

Anything over a 6" rear drop.

My '69 swb has a 5.5"/7.5" drop.
The rear is a littlle lower now,... than in this pic.
This pic was taken after I finished lowering it, and before I had driven it much.

Re: wheel fitment

with a 5.5 inch drop in the front did you have to do anything to the front suspension(tubular arms etc....)

No.
Just 2.5" drop spindles and 3" drop springs.
I trimmed the lower a-arms around the balljoint area and remove the bumpstop stand. That's it.

They are off of the 88-98 4x4 trucks with steel wheels.
