steering column question

is there anyway to shortin or cut down the length of the column? im trying to get the wheel a little closer to the dash and not so close to me. thanks

if your going to shorten the column it probably would be best to have a non-tilt column also you may need put a shifter on your floor. but other then that I believe you could shorten the shaft inside the column if you are a good welder and knew how to keep a shaft straight when welding back together. Reason you need to cut the shaft and weld it back together is due to the fact each end has its own splines for the steering wheel to the steering box hardware.

if your going to go the route of placing your shifter on the floor and shorten the column here is a bit of info I have found out.

I took my non-tilt column apart to take the shifter off the column and place one on the floor and that was not that big of a deal but the shifter does go all the way through the column to the shifting rod under the hood, so that safety neutral switch needs to be disabled as well if you do not disable it then your truck may not start at times due to it vibrating out of neutral.
