Question Ignition Plate Removal ?

I know they don't cost much for new replacement and I have one but I generally try to remove parts without breaking them. Does anyone know the trick to removing the ignition/accessory/start/run plate which has a split plastic tab at both ends? Need to remove it to ready the dash for sand, prime and paint. Know how to remove the ignition lock cylinder with the paper clip by inserting with key in and turning to the left then unscrew the ignition faceplate. Just have never had to remove the plastic plate above ignition before. My thanks to all who can give some tips on this.

I just removed mine yesterday by squeezing the split tabs with some needle nose pliers and pushing slightly.
I had a much harder time with the ignition in spite of knowing the paper clip technique.
