Can I put a 67 front clip on a 70 cab?

Hi I am new to this forum and I was wondering if anybody has ever put 1967 chevy front fenders and hood on a 1970 GMC cab or is this possible? Also what parts would I need to purchase? The reason is that I just bought a 1970 GMC cab for a very good deal and the doors, cab and frame have already been body worked. But I really like the lines of the 1967 front end and was hoping to attach them to my cab. Another question is that the frame is a long box and was wondering if it is possible to "Z" notch the frame and shorten to fit a short box or is it better to just find a short box frame?

Thanks

Yes to all your ? Welcome to the board from TX. Do a search on this board from the search box at the top of the page, or look in the fourms and find the faq section.
Alot of good reading. Good luck and enjoy your truck.

Go for it, cut lots of them down to make short beds, its easier if it is a leaf spring rear end.

youd be better off with a 68 nose... it has side marker lights, like the '70 bed you have.

To answer your question, yes the '67 front will bolt on. I would use the complete front clip. There is a difference in the core support to frame mounts but it's just a matter of the holes being a different size. Not a big problem. If you are concerned about the markers just weld the back holes up.

I would say cut the frame, I have done a couple of them and I used the instructions in the FAQ. It worked great and it isn't like there are aren't any long beds left out there..... Below is how I get to the FAQ forum.

There is a lot of different information in the FAQ forum. Scroll down to the bottom of this page and you will see the "Forum Jump" box. Click on the little down arrow on the right side of the box and scroll down to "FAQ Truck Tech". On that page go down to "Thread / Thread Starter: FAQ Index thread". When you get into that scroll through the different sections and you will find answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet....

I could have just posted a direct link but there is a lot of good info in the FAQ section and now the people that read this thread will know how to get to it. Thanks to Krue for indexing the FAQ's

I shortened a couple of frames using the instructions in the FAQ and it worked out great. I think there are also threads on installing air bags and static drops.

You might want to check out the "Projects and builds" forum for some good info.

If your GMC came with the original fenders they are the same as the 67 Chevy fenders with the exception of the marker lights. So all you would really need would be the core support, grille, trim and hood.

Re: Can I put a 67 front clip on a 70 cab?

Thanks for the replies they have been very helpful. I just found the FAQ section that you guys mentioned and that helps out alot. I have a complete long box but there are very few salvagable parts on it so I will be buying an entire box. I really like the look of the shortbox fleetside and figured if I could shorten the frame I could just bolt on the new shortbox parts. The front fenders are also hooped so I though I would change those out at the same time to 67 if that works and it sounds like it will. This is a very informative site. I just finshed restoring a 68 camaro a few years back and now I am restoring this 1970 pickup for my girlfriend.

A lot of guys on here do that nose swap. At least the early nose on a later truck.

Here is the link to the correct way to shorten the frame provided by one of our board members. This is for a coil spring rear end but would also work for leaf springs. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=123624
