Gas Filler door

I am hoping to go to the salvage yard sometime in the next week or two and cut out a fuel door for my blazer. I want a round one as opposed to square so I was thinking about an 88-98 full sized truck. Does anyone know of something that might fit better? Sheet metal work is still pretty new for me so I need the best fitting right out of the "box" as possible so hopefully I can make it look decent. I want it to be round and at least come off of a GM vehicle other wise I'm open to suggestions.

Re: Gas Filler door

Critter - I used a door from a 88-98 truck. I too wanted it to look like it belonged there. I used the door, flange, plastic housing and filler neck. The plastic housing interfered with the inner panel of the box, so it had to be clearanced. If you go this route, make sure the filler neck does not interfere with the floor support. I can get pictures tomorrow if you like. Good luck.

Re: Gas Filler door

I don't like the finger recesses of the GM doors so I opted to cut one out of a Plymoth Voyager van. They have cable pull latch so they are entirely flush.

Sorry about the bad pics, but you can see there aren't any finger pulls. WES

I think that turned out good. Its kinda hard to see in the pic but it looks like everything fit behind the factory filler neck cover, which means the inner bed panel will fit as well, is that correct?

Looks nice, I have thought about finding a flushmount like that. Probably going to go to the yard and look around and if I don't see anything better I will go with the 88-98 style, or the S-10 like My67 and others have mentioned. Thanks for talking through this with me guys.

Critter - Here are some pics of my setup, but after looking at Big J's setup, that turned out nicer than mine. Nice work, Big J!

Re: Gas Filler door

Critter - I used seam sealer on the box shaped cover and was unable to remove it. It looks pretty much the same as Big J's under there.

Re: Gas Filler door

Thanks Skidder, I like what you've done. By the way, white has made my short list of colors that may find its way onto my Blazer, yours looks good.

I could have made it fit flush if I'd of grabbed the 1990 filler neck. But I used the 72 (I wanted to retain that big shiny gas cap, lol) and at the angle it was at I had to make the hole a little bigger on the back side. You can see the angle on the bottom of the inner cover I put in. The mod I did to it is someplace in the thread after the filler door install.
