School me on the 427

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a 73 K20 4x4 flatbed with a 427. I've only owned small block chevys and have rebuilt plenty of them. Never had a 427. Please give me some insight on the motor. I'm sure I will be twisting at he MPG.

Thanks...

dyno

Re: School me on the 427

It could be a car 427 which is like any other big block, or given the kind of truck you are looking at it may be a medium duty truck 427. The truck 427 came in big C60 trucks and has a raised deck height for taller pistons with an extra ring. The truck 427 is built for low end torque but it's a solid motor that will run for a long time. In a 4x4 rig it would work pretty well.

Your best bet is to look up the casting number on the block here http://www.mortec.com/ and see what it is really is.

Whether it's a car or truck 427, either one is a good motor.

Re: School me on the 427

Thanks pyro...I'm going to look at the rig today. I'm buying it for a ranch truck so I could use the extra torque.
