i have a 68 chevy 2wd short bed pick up,im putting 396 big block in it but im not sure if putting s-10 front springs in it would be a good idea, i dont know if the s-10 springs are going to be able to hold the weight of the big block, got any suggestions of what springs to use???

I do know a 396 weighs twice as much as a 350.....................Not sure if this helps at all

not sure but I wouldn't think they would just use sb springs and the height diference is about 3" from bb springs if your trying to drop it

4mil,we can better advise you with more info.What will you be using the truck for?What is your goal? How do you want the truck to ride?
Generally it's best to stick with factory style springs from one of the after market vendors.

Will an S-10 spring even fit in the pocket of the control arms or crossmembers in our trucks? I honestly don't know. I don't think this sounds like a good idea, if you are looking to lower it on the cheap, I'd use small block springs from our trucks and maybe cut a coil to fine tune the height.
You should be able to find someone who would give you a set for nothing.

Drop the big block in and see how it sits first. Then go from there. Everyone I have talked to says dropping in a big block with your factory springs only drops the front end about a 1/4 inch from where it sat with a small block in it.

Iron small blocks weigh 575 pounds average. Iron big blocks weigh 685 pounds average.

I am kind of curious what your intentions are with using s-10 springs? Are you looking to gain something? Did you get them for free? Do you not have the original springs? This is a new one to me...I didn't know you could use them, but thats cool. Seems like something I wouldn't want to do...a small pickups springs in a full size with a big block.

My 67 had cut stock springs and it was originally an inline 6 but had a 454 in it. It worked okay. I got some 3 inch drop springs in it now...they were pretty cheap and specifically built for this pickup. Not as cheap as cutting originals, but if you can swing it I would just get springs that are meant for these trucks...you will be glad you did I think.
