Great problem to have!?!?

Well with 3 young kids I have been wanting to get a 2wd Blazer/Jimmy to build and enjoy with the entire family - well, somehow I ended up getting two!!

First I picked up a 71 2wd Jimmy, then a 70 2wd Blazer w/ a ton of extra parts that I would want/need came up for sale and I really couldn't pass it up

So that leads me to my current problem, and it really is a great problem to have - I just can't keep em both -

My plan: 5.3/4l60e, Porterbuilt suspension (dropmember, trailing arm crossmember, rear arms, control arms) bagged with disc brakes all four corners. 20/20 wheels, maybe 20/22!

I don't think I will go rodster, keeping my windshield stock so I can throw the top back on (never know it might rain) Both bodies will need a decent amount of body work so from that perspective not much difference. I like the idea of having a first year production 70 2wd, but the Jimmy has really grown on me and you just don't see a lot of them around!

If I go with the 70 it will have a 67/68 front clip!

If I go with the 71 Jimmy I plan in laying the hood back a bit and giving the grill some gun metal - like Mark Mcdonald's amazing 69' truck! I really like the way his truck looks and would use it as my model if I stay with the Jimmy.

I borrowed a few pictures to get an idea of whats going through my brain - so let me know what you guys think - and thank you for opinions!

Seems like it hardly matters. You're just trying to decide which grill and tailgate lettering. I'd pick which ever one needed the least amount of work to get what you want in the end. The 67/68 clip will fit either one, as would the GMC clip.

Just curious, is the 2wd Jimmy a coil or leaf rear spring?

I voted for the Jimmy front end, doesn't mean you can't put it on the Blazer body like hgs said. Either is awesome, GMCs have just been catching my eye lately, good luck either way you go.

I'd take the two and make one. Sell what is left to help fund the project. Laying the hood back is a lot more work than a 67-68 grill, but also a bit more common.

Kevin's blazer is one of my favorites. It is a clean ride with subtle mods.

All you have to do on the GMC front end to run a 67-68 hood is change the trim on the top of the grill to a 67-68 GMC grill trim and take off the fender trim. Unless you still want to use that trim.

Good point. For what ever reason I would stay with GMC front if I kept Jimmy & I would go with 67/68 if I stayed Blazer - nostalgic I guess

I probably wouldn't lay it as far back as the 67/68 - somewhere in between is the look I am thinking.

Not sure on the numbers - I've heard GMC #'s where around 10% of Chevy, that seems pretty low though.

I'm leaning towards the Jimmy as I really don't see very many 2wd Jimmy's rolling around. Again thanks for everyones input!

You don't see many done right.
It's gotta be low though,..

Not to offend anyone,... but I think the '68 front end is getting old on the blazers.
The only exception would be,... if you ran the full '68 side trim. That would be cool.

Get a couple Dropmembers to start the project off right.
(and not because I want it to lay frame,... even though it will,... it's the ride height, that makes the Dropmembers worth the money!)

I was thinking about using 68 side trim even if I go with the Jimmy either way. I'm sure you've seen the bad a$$ AccuAir, orange GMC - kinda thinking that look with a darkened (gun-metal) center grill and some wheels to match - 20/22 combo.

That sounds perfect!
Now you need to sell any extra trucks, to fund that project.
