I'm wondering if I can use a low hump floor/trans cover successfully with a three speed floor shifter?

Not to sound foolish, but if the hump clears the tranny, then it will work. It is a matter of providing adequate clearance for the shifter, at your discretion. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

LOL, I just went on your build thread Dave and was marveling at your work...then thought I would look for your shifter and ran across the hatchet man. My wife had to come in and see what I was cracking up about.

I found one mounting kit on ebay today and bought it. Wasn't able to find one specific to this truck anywhere else. Tomorrow it will be the shifter. They seem to be readily available.

My shift kind sucks. Sometimes it gets caught between two gears and won't move. I have to get out and crawl under to fix it. I think it's just worn out. Somthing else I need to update. It has'nt done it for awhile though. Only when I try to shift to fast.

It is indeed installed. I should have written it up, but was suffering thru it as I hurt my back in the process and was cussing and suffering thru it. I mad it though. I have some concern about the shift into third. It doesn't feel positive and I fear the shift fork has been bent at some time. However, the doors are off so I haven't driven it.

I am pushing hard after work every day to get everything but the cab ready for paint, but I'll try to take some pictures.

Do you know what kinda trans you have? I'm thinking I need a new shifter or new shifter parts. Every time I shift fast it get stuck in first. I was looking at the holes they are kinda worn. Maybe my shifter just is'nt meant to be shifted in a reverse N it likes the H. I hate hurting my back, nothing is worse.

I broke the output shaft on the 6 bolt sidecover trans in my 66 and replaced it with a 4bolt Chevy 341 trans...non syncro first. I had to have my driveshaft shortened.

I always found binding to be related to the holes being wallered out or needing new grommets and maybe a washer ont he back side to tighten things up..even with my column shift.

Ya the holes are pretty wallered out. I was thinking of welding them shut and redrilling. I'm going to see if I can maybe get some new parts/grommets. I did'nt even see any grommets. The center shift arm lets go of the reverse/1st arm before its in the neutral postion. Then I'm stuck in first. Wasn't to bad before I lowered my truck so much.

Now I have to find a curb to crawl up on to get under the truck. All I have to do is push the 1st/reverse arm into the neutral posn. and it works again.

As long as I don't shift to fast and make sure I do a H it all works good.

I think the grommets are readily available, but you can usually find some brass bushings that will fit in the HELP brand section of an auto parts store.

I had a vintage 1965 Hurst "Factory" bayonet style 4 -speed in my 1965 when I bought it. It did all the things you fellas are talking about. Specifically it would hang in second gear.

I tried to adjust it, then installed new rods and bushings. It never was right until I installed a new Hurst Shifter. The shifter mechanism itself was shot. And the price to rebuild the shifter was more than a new shifter?

What a huge difference. Positive shifts and crisp gear selection.

I also grafted in a 2nd generation shifter hump to level things out and cover the gapping hole the previous owners had cut in the floor. The hole was nearly big enough to stick you head thru...

My new three speed is a Hurst. It is not sticking but the shift into third doesn't feel positive.

Mine hung when I had the old linkage from my three on the tree.

I found a 3 speed shifter from Classic parts. Says it's Universal 3 speed floor shifter. Looks just like mine minus the hatchet,$100. I was thinking mine was a hurst. I was having a had time finding one that looked like mine. Guess I'll have to get it coming,
