new truck and i broke something...

Just got this truck two days ago. 92 gmc, 250k kms, 305 (i believe), 2barrel tbi (i think). AC and pwr locks/windows. No rust. One thousand bucks. Decided i was going to check the usual: oil, plugs, air filter, etc. Went to take off air filter housing, i guess i pulled a little too hard and ended up braking the plastic wire connector that connects the 2 wires to the left injector. Is this bad? The connectors still attach to the injector but they are no longer joined together. I also noticed a strong smell of gas and very dirty in the housing. I pulled one plug and found it to be white ashy in colour. No oil on it though. Does white ash mean running lean? Timing retarded, correct? The oil cap also smelled like burned oil, mixed with some gasoline in it. I will have to change it as well. Also noticed slow oil leak coming from front of intake manifold. I guess that should come off and be resealed...any other things to do?

Well I always use something like that to read my plugs it should give you some good info, for white plugs yea I've heard it could be that or fuel additives and other stuff. Now for where the injectors are at it always stinks like gas right there cause its spraying gas there my 90 chevy 1500 air filter always stunk like gas but its spraying gas in that area so that was why.

For the oil cap these motors always have a hint of gas in there oil but never a smell of burning oil, hmmm rings maybe but if the rings where bad you would see oil on the plug.

Now for the tbi injection that clip thing you mentioned I would go on and fix it and go from there, the gas smell around the tbi is normal or well my truck had the smell but I never thought much of it cause you can see the injectors spraying gas down.

Have you done a compression test on it, and and for the timing with the ecu unhooked it should be 0 ,when you do set it you can set it at 4degrees advanced because it makes the truck run a little better, don't go past 4 or you will have to run a higher octane gas.

Your local parts store should have it, it's a common replacement nowadays.

You're talking about the connector that plugs in to the two pins on the top of the injector, probably whiteish or yellowish, with two wires coming out the side, and kinda flat on top?

Re: new truck and i broke something...

That's either a cheap parts store piece or cheaper junkyard scrounge, shouldn't be a big setback. I'd probably pull the intake to check lifter valley, etc. and replace gaskets. If it hasn't been done by now, it needs it. Plugs, fuel filter, wire/cap/rotor and an oil change.

Re: new truck and i broke something...

There I was tryin' to be funny and you took me seriously!

My wifes' step dad (deceased) was from Illinois. He grew up on a farm and later lived in Texas, in the valley. He had suffered through the amputation of one of his hands, when he was younger. It was successfully re-attached. The cold bothered his hand and that was why he moved to Texas. After he met/married my mother-in-law and I met him, his argument about the winters in Arkanasas being cold (compared to the valley in Texas) was that we "are closer to Canada" and that was why it got cold here.
