One wire revisited
I am getting ready to install a one wire alternator, and want to get rid of the external regulator. All I have to do is jump the plug like in the photo (3 posts down)?http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ire+alternator
And then run a new 8 guage wire to the post on the alternator? I know it this topic has been beaten to death, but I just want to be sure. As always thanks!!!

I have these kits (with the jump wire included now) for $11.00 postage included. Makes for a very easy changeover.

That is not for a one wire though is it? I only have one post on my new alternator.

I'm not familiar with exactly what "one wire" is. This kit is for changing over to an internally regulated alternator and eliminating the old voltage regulator. I'm assuming the end result is the same, but like I said, I'm not by any means an authority on the subject. I used this kit to change over 3 years ago, and have never had an electrical problem since. Definately do not miss that old voltage regulator! Like the pic says, you just plug the adaptor in to the new alt., red wire to the batt. post on the back of the alt., and the white wire goes to the switched lead from the ignition. The jump wire completes the changeover. It is an easy upgrade, and a nice improvement IMO.

Larry,
I got that kit from you and it worked for me! I switched mine out about 3 or 4 months ago and no problem yet, Sam

Thanks for all the great Info. It went in today without
a hitch!! 12V while sitting, 13.49 while running, looks good to me. It is nice to have the regulator off the firewall, and the loss of cluttered wiring. Thanks again..

I used the conversion as an excuse to replace my wiring harness! The new one came already modified for the alternator, and is so NICE!

Hey bpmcgee, where did you get your wire harness, and does it clean up the engine compartment better?
I am thinking about getting a new harness to clean up my engine. Thanks! Dan
