Tricks for spotting a shortbox in photos?

Does anyone have any tricks for spotting a shotbox based on a photo? Since everyone tends to take front-corner photos like this:



I find it really hard to tell when there's only one photo and the depth of field is like that one above (which I assume is a standard long box). Plus no two people take their photos from the same distance and amount of zoom, so its hard to compare even to reference photos.

But if there's a tip on other clues that only shortboxes exhibit, it'd be handy to know! Like maybe the section between door and wheel is MUCH shorter on a shortbox, that sort of thing.

sorry looks pretty obvious to me.. I see a big defference. cab to wheel well is alot shorter.

That one is definitely a longbed, but I know what you mean, I've seen quite a few pics where I wasn't sure if it was a long or shortbed too.

I know what you mean, ive had trouble in certain pictures too. The section of bed in front of the rear wheel is the giveaway to me though. In a short bed the bottom of the bedside is about the same length in front and behind the rear tire. In other words the wheel arch is about smack in the middle of the bed; longbeds the section between the cab and rear wheel is much longer. Combine that with the length of the wheelbase and you should be able to tell every time.

I've only had problems on a handfull of photos, but I can see the issue being annoying though.
If you can see the top of the bed sides, a 6 1/2 foot bed only has 2 pockets per side, one up front, and one in back. An 8 foot bed has 3 per side, the added one in the middle. The 8 1/2 foot beds on the longhorns have 3 like an 8 footer, but the front pocket is moved back 6 inches.
Of corse, that's only for fleetsides. However, i doubt you'd have a problem telling a short step from a long step... and the 9 foot stepside one tons look downright weird.

Know what you mean I look at pictures all the time even when it states long or short i have to do a double take, mines short nothing I can do about it....
