I don't mean to hack on the guy's initiative and ingenuity, but you can't go for extremes and ignore the norm unless you're a mechanical engineer and know how to go one better. Being able to weld doesn't qualify.

Just to put things into perspective, suppose you're going down the road and he's behind you. The car is front of you slams on the brakes to panic stop but doesn't have any brake lights. You're reaction time will be 1.5 to 2 seconds late and so will his. Do you think all those welds will hold up? Not a chance.

Whether you want to take your truck up or down, use the best off-the-shelf parts available and go overkill. This guy went sky-high, consequences be damned. Not that he's an evil dude, just ill-informed.
