Re: 5.3 swap in a 70 c10
This is something you should plan out waaaaay in advance, have plenty of work space and all the pieces and parts right there. If you are going to do anything like, replace stock stuff while the motor is out, then do that first( ie brake lines, clean up engine compartment, etc).
pre purchase your parts too, ask around on what works well and follow the advise of the two we gave you. FYI, I bought parts and ended up buying mounts and such twice because one worked better than another for my set up. Have plenty of time to do this and a schedule too, a buddy is always good for that 2nd set of eyes when a bolt or something just wont fit like it did before. By all means, have fun with it, when it becomes a chore, you will loose interest. Good luck!

Re: 5.3 swap in a 70 c10
great links! That one is very overwhelming, but you're right, it is all the info one might need if tackling this project!
I'm pulling the 5.3/4L60e out of my '02 Sierra for a built LQ9/4L65e, so I'll have the cam'ed stocker just sitting around. Might be an option to swap into the C10! oh boy, never ending list of projects! |

Re: 5.3 swap in a 70 c10
I will tell you this, I would NOT have tackled it alone if I would have known, I did mine in a carport, only on weekends I didnt have kids, week nights, in the heat/cold/rain etc. The MOST frustrating thing was being in the middle of things and realizing I need an X or Y and having to wait to go to work the next day to order it( I dont have internet @ home), or go across town to buy it, uuuuugggghhhh!
BUT......I am so glad I did NOW! the truck runs sooo much better, ALOT more power, smoother, better gas mileage big time( I was getting 8-9mpg). So yes it sucked for 5 months, but it sure as h3ll doesnt now!

Re: 5.3 swap in a 70 c10
Middle of mine, been waiting for headers from Doug Thorley for a while. My fault, waited to order after I'd pulled the old engine. I'm using I6 engine stands in rear position with squarish adapter plates. The engine is farther back this way. Fits well. Waiting for headers to make sure they fit then drilling tranny crossmember holes in frame and bolting up. Will update as soon as headers get here. They've shipped. Soon. Good luck with it if you decide to go this way. Its my second with this engine and its a good conversion choice.

Re: 5.3 swap in a 70 c10
Eagle, your not going to like the stock I6 mounts, the engine sits too low in crossmember. I tried the stock v8 mounts in my 65 and it just wouldnt allow headers of any kind, stock or shortie. I used the POL tubular perches, they allow the engine to sit up about an inch or so. made a world of difference.
link, I got the painted ones, not these chrome one, they were alot cheaper. http://www.performanceonline.com/sto...cat=455&page=1
