New truck, new project

Yesterday I sold my 98 Firebird for $2800. Today I woke up at 6 AM and me and a friend drove 70 miles one way to look at this truck. Which is a long way when your only 17. I checked it over, no oil leaks, tranny fluid is still pink after 3 months of driving, it doesnt over heat, but now was the final test, the first drive. I drove it and I fell in love with it. It had made my day today by buying this truck. Its a 1976 C-10 mostly original. It came stock with a 6 cylinder and three speed trans. Now today it has a 350 that I know nothing about the specs other then it has to have been built a little. It has a TH350 trans with a floor mounted B&M Rachet Shifter in it. Manuel locks and doors, but it does have tilt steering with a GT Grant steering wheel installed. Its got true duals with headers and flowmaster mufflers. I paid $1500 cash for it. Right now Im cleaning the engine bay up and resealing some stuff on the motor like water pump and valve covers. Then IDK, I still got $800 from the Firebird that I can spend on it. Thinking bout hitting the local junk yards and see if I can find anything usefull.

Well, You could install some parts so you don't get a nose bleed while driving it !

i would put a back bumper on it. an a full tune up and maybe tires an then drive. it looks nice. an sounds better.

Kinda funny though that the po replaced the idiot lights with gages but didn't put the tach into the dash while he was at it.... the tach isn't bad there but it does seem odd to only have gone half ways on the gages.

I am thinking about a nice 2/4 drop on it, but aint made up my mind yet. The engine compartment will get degressed and some chrome valve covers added. The roll pan will stay though, I like it, the tires are good except maybe that back right rear....hahaha. Im also gonna put my edelbrock 600CFM carb on it to replace that double pumper. Dont want to spend all my money just yet ya know, just in case. But other then that Im just gonna drive the crap outta it.

How low should I go on this truck? And what kit is a good one but not to costly?

nice truck i think you got a good deal on it.a few things i believe would improve its looks would be to lose the size matters badges on the fenders they look really out of place,clean up the engine bay for sure that would help a ton and relocate the tach i think it would improve the looks of things in the interior.i also think you should put a bumper on the rear instead of the roll pan as well as change the rims.jmo and should only be took as such.ultimately i think you got a good deal on it and should be proud and enjoy it.

You mentioned a 2/4 kit. Anything more is going to blow your spare cash. Personally I like these trucks with a 5/7 static drop.

You can start with cutting one coil off the stock spring and add a shackle in the rear. If you want to spend the extra cash, go with a spindle instead of cutting the spring.


FYI-When I suggest "cutting" your spring, that means use a method that does not heat the spring up.

Well since I got this truck now, one I have wanted ever since I saw one. I am selling my 86 project to a guy that my dad works with. He wants everything but the motor. Its selling for $500 and thats $400 more then what I brought the truck for. And that money is what will go to a lowering kit. I was thinking of buying the Belltech stage one lowering kit 2/4. do a search on belltech on here there have been several people whove used their products and you may want to ask you lowering questions on the suspension thread as the guys who are most knowledgeable about that kind of thing are there, including some from different genre trucks

Dude, You need to stay away from Stylin Trucks....They are one of the higher price places to buy parts.

You can go roughly a 3-5 drop from Summit for a 175 bux, You should be able to do just a flip without shackles and get by without a C-notch.

If i go with a 3/5 drop, would I have problems with my front wheels? Everytime I read a post about 3 or more inch drop in the front, they always have problems with the front wheels.

This is 3-7 with 8" wheels and 60's up front 10" with 50's out back on my 74 before I stripped it, Never had any rubbing issues at all with the old clip and fender wells. Anything more than 3 up front and you can start having issues depending on tire/wheel combo.
