What's the deal....
Went to three different auto parts stores(auto zone, advanced and car quest) looking for an upper radiator hose for my K25 w/ 350. All three come back with a 2" to 6" piece of hose. The upper hose on my truck is about 24" long and has 3 bends. The guy at car quest looked in a book not a computer and also pulled the hose listed for a 2wd, it was a perfect fit. What gives? Anybody else encounter this?

I have an original 1972 K-10 (350) 4 speed. Between the radiator and the engine is a metal tube with short pieces of hose at each end attaching them. Maybe those are the hoses he was trying to sell you?

here's something else interesting to know! I work at NAPA and I needed a blower motor so me and the parts woman I work with are going throught the puter and I order the blower motor for a NON A/C truck and I get the part and all it is is a freakin blower wheel! I was like WTF?.... It's just a wheel! so we go back into the puter and get the part number for the one thats for the "A/C cab" and it's the actual motor that I need! So the moral of the story is the computer are not always right! most the time it is the parts person but sometimes it's not! I just thought I would let you all know! Just incase you need a blower motor anytime soon! LOL

I also have seen the metal rad hose with a small piece of rubber at each end. And you only visited 1 parts store the others only sell wax and oil, no I am sorry that is all that I would buy there!

The 4X4's all came with the stubby hosees and metal pipe from what I understand.
The engine is set further back on a 4X4, and this was to help keeping the hose out of the fan. Also less hose to get worn out, so it would last longer. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. So I should have two little rubber hoses and a metal hose in between? The hose I bought is for a 2wd w/ small block, isn't the engine in the same place on a 4wd as a 2wd, v8 that is? And the straight 6 mounts are further forward and that on 2wd the v8 could be moved forward?
p.s. I would have went to NAPA but they were closed. I know I should not have been in a hurry. ------------------ 1970 GMC K25 Custom Chesapeake, VA My 70 GMCor Webshots http://community.webshots.com/user/70gmc

longhornmail is right . The 2 wd hoses also tend to rub up against the alternater on the 4 wd .

I understand what's being said, but why does it make a difference if it's 2wd or 4wd? It's the same distance, both have altenators etc...

The V8 sits foward in the 2WD trucks(about 3 1/2"). The 2WD 6 cyl trucks sit closer to the firewall,as do the 4WD trucks(V8 mounts in 6cyl position on the 4WD).....69 longhorn.

Anyone have a stock spare metal upper radiator hose for my 72 4x4 suburban in good shape? My hose rubs on fan shroud. The usual picture and price if possible please.
thanks. cheyenne10@msn.com

Here's a couple shots of a 350 in a '70 C/20
Notice the firewall clearance, and also the fan shroud size. My upper hose is off of a '73 - 87 truck...fits better than the correct one. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. the engine does sit further back in the 4X4, mine's using a 2wd radiator hose and working well. Usually when I go to a parts store, other than my old trusty napa store, I get the old "our parts books only go back to '74", has anyone ever tried to get a stock throttle cable for a '72 4X4 with 350/automatic??? The headaches never cease!! LOL

I went to Advance as well as Auto Zone for the top radiator hose for the 68 short wide V8 and of course got the wrong one. Then I looked at my 79 camaro with a 350 and saw it was the right hose. sometimes you have to mix and match. Something I won't forget. Kerry

Thanks, everybody. That clears it up for me. Sometime in the past 32 years a previous owner "upgraded" my upper rad hose, oh well live and learn.....

I'm in mourning........My NAPA guy ( afriend for years) just told me that as of 4-2-02 he now works for the local Pontiac dealer in the parts department. How could he do this to me? At least he didn't go to the Daewoo dealer!
