Clutch and pressure plate question??

I am removing the saginaw three speed and replacing it with a t5 out of an s10. i have to replace the clutch, but my question is, is it possible to remove the clutch by loosening the pressure plate and slipping the clutch out and slipping the new one back in? can i bypass taking the bell housing off?

It's been a while since I've had one apart but it seems to me that you can, but you have to turn the motor over to get all of the bolts out of the pressure plate. I would recommend turning it over by hand with a small pry bar on the teeth of the flywheel instead of using the starter.

Do you have the adapter plate for the swap?

You mean that you changed the input shaft to a shorter one?

Re: Clutch and pressure plate question??

Not quite. Just used a shaft out of a t5 that has been behind a 350 previously. So the splines are cut longer, collar is cut a little etc. All the work was done by a local transmission shop.

You should be good to go then. I just bought a 9/16" spacer plate for mine.

Re: Clutch and pressure plate question??

Yeh you can just slip the clutch and pressure plate out the inspection hole. I did EXACTLY this this weekend for the EXACT same reason(sag 3spd to t-5 swap).
