Re: front end swap??

I don't care about the metric bolts I just don't want to do too much fabrication cuz I don't have any experience. It's a 1990 suburban the old square body with the TBI 454, or should i go with a 73 or so front swap?

Re: front end swap??

The pickups, Suburbans and 2wd Blazers had the same suspension from '73-'87. However the Suburbans and Blazers continued with that same suspension thru '91 along with the 'Squarebody' So that '90 Suburban has the same suspension as the '73-'87's. No fabrication required, just drill 2 holes and elongate 2 holes. That is if you're swapping the crossmember and all.

Might drop that TBI 454 and trans in there while you're at it......

Re: front end swap??

I just finished my swap. I put in new upper an lower ball joints in my 1963 a arms for a 1982 chevrolet truck. I then installed the spindles, disc brakes, brake lines, proportioning valve and steering components on my truck. I had to drill two holes in the passenger frame rail for the late model idler arm, and a hole on each side to run the brake line through. The only line I had to make was a junction from the proportioning valve (mounts up front under the radiator) to the rear brake line. Very simple swap, all parts simply swapped over. My donor parts were in good enough shape that I used everything except the ball joints and master cylinder. My master cylinder is from Car Quest for a 78 chevy truck disc brake non power. Stops great now, was very scary before.....

For future reference let me break this down a bit more. The 73-87 trucks are all the same as 73-91 Burbs. Blazer's break from 73-82 because they stopped making 2wd 's in 82.

Re: front end swap??

Thanks for the clarification Ken. I wasn't aware of the year range of the 2wd Blazers. I stand corrected

Re: front end swap??

63Burb,

I suck at taking pictures while working I get everything greasy and dirty (think pigpen). I can shoot some after pics if you would like, but trust me this is a very simple swap. I thought it was going to be more of a PITA but it wasn't. I have a cub scout meeting tonight with my son, but I can shoot some wednesday.
