76' Trailering Special

Saw this locally yesterday. I wanted to get some input on the trailering special option. I'm not familiar with it and haven't seen it on a half ton shorty. The body is rough and the asking price is too high ($2500), but it has a lot of great options (big block, tach, buckets, console, trailering special). Take a look and let me know what you think.

Re: 76' Trailering Special

The only thing I have seen that on was a quad cab single rear wheel C-30. It said 12,000 lbs GCVW on the emblem. Did you get a close up shot of the emblem to see what the pound rating was on that truck? It looks like it says 10,000 lbs.

I snagged the emblems for my 78 to replace the camper special emblems but I don't know what bin they are in at the moment to get a pic of them.

Re: 76' Trailering Special

Rare truck.....full load short box big block/buckets/tach/rear sport bumper/black paint ....appears to be complete and original other than stereo.
likely a special order or zone display truck. If it was closer I'd buy it to restore.
Is there any history, original order sheets etc with it?

The trailering special was mainly a package that required the dealer to order the truck suitable for towing;included was power steering,hd battery, auto trans on 1/2 tons,hd springs ,v8 motor etc.

Re: 76' Trailering Special

I didn't realize it was optional on a SWB C10, but it's hard to argue with the SPID. Man I would love to have had this truck in it's prime condition...

Re: 76' Trailering Special

Oh what I would do for that badge. lol I have one missing. The t/s is sorta like a heavy half/big 10. It should have a 3/4 springs, tow hitch and maybe a posie, along with what has been said.

Re: 76' Trailering Special

I have a 77 TS stepside. Big Block, trailer brakes, Silverado, dual batteries. Mine has a bench seat though. I am putting 73 buckets/console in now. I am sure that this was a rare bird in a stepside.

A "rough body" here in PA. means that you can throw a bowling ball through it and not hit metal.. I wish I had a bay in the garage.

Re: 76' Trailering Special

Thanks for all of your input.

68'TT: The pound rating is 10,000.
80'Sport: It is pretty complete. Has headers, the air conditioning is disconnected, but all there in a box. The current owner's friend was the original owner. It was a special order truck. It is also supposed to have a 410 rear end, but I haven't been able to verify that. I have only spoken with the owner over the phone twice, but was able to meet with the son to look at it. I'm unsure if there is any other paper work at this time. I will keep you posted.
Givengold: Do you have any pics?
Vixvega: It's not quite that bad, but the pictures hide a lot, the bed being the worst of it.

Thanks again for all the info. You've all been a great help. Currently the owner said he would take $2200. I still haven't driven it yet, but I will keep you posted.

Re: 76' Trailering Special

Never seen the Trailering Special option on a half ton until now. My old '77 was a t/s but was a 3/4 ton.

Re: 76' Trailering Special

Wow, cool truck! I think that the amount of great options makes it worth the asking price, and it doesn't appear to be too rusty.

Also, I think I have seen just as many 1/2 ton trailering specials as I have in the heavier trucks. The package was available on Blazers and Suburbans too.

Re: 76' Trailering Special

My 82 Jimmy is a trailering special with the 6.2 diesel. I sure would hate to tow more than a jet ski or a snowmobile with it...

If you are looking at the truck you can sometimes find a build sheet stuck to the underneath of the seat ....this will list all the build info...

Re: 76' Trailering Special

I like it! I've got a '77 lwb, but it hasn't got the factory tach like that one. It's really hard to beat old big block trucks. Hope you can work out a deal on it.

Re: 76' Trailering Special

That is a rare truck with a ton of great options. I would buy it in a heartbeat for $2500.

This will be one of those vehicles you will wish you would have bought all your life if you don't get it.

I agree - that was my first thought.

The only thing is those buckets. You can only take one person with you, which sort of limits the fun on race trips or beach weekends.
