I saw something on TV (years ago) about how one of the news stations tried to reenact a side hit and explosion. Apparently they tried it a few times with no luck. They had so much money invested in the test and TV, they rigged the truck to explode on tape. They then aired it on TV and failed to mention that they rigged it to explode. Later the word got out and they were forced to make a public apology. Does anyone else remember this?
The TV show that did this was one of the bigger nation wide broadcasters.

Eddie, I believe it was Dateline NBC.

I saw it too, just can't remember the specifics.

My '86 has the giant plastic covers you are talking about. The covers are so big that I thought I had plastic tanks at first.

Yeah, it was dateline. Sometime around then is when someone showed the "Pending" train wreck case. And the interviewed some specialist. That is where the guy said the blood on the front of the locomotive indicated to him that his head was split open upon impact which cause the death, NOT the tanks.
