Unhappy 68shortstep is gone

Family financial commitments & needs always come first.

This awful economy & the fact that my wife & I both work in real estate has forced me to do something that I thought I'd NEVER do:

I SOLD IT today!!!!!!

Lost a little $$$$$$, of course, but Ole Blue went to a good home, & I really needed the money, just to be sure we would get by for a while, til things hopefully get better.

A long-time hot-rodder & resto-mod buddy, who has the time, talent & money to finish the project the way I always wanted to, now will be able to do what I just couldn't afford to do.

Maybe some day, there'll be another project for me, when I can better afford to do one all the way.

I'll continue to hang around, & try to keep on learning.

Thanks to the group .......... you are a truly GREAT bunch of folks !!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a shame, but I understand the money issue. I'm semi-retired. My project has to go extremely slow.

Re: 68shortstep is gone

Thanks for the kind words & thoughts. I didn't have adequate shelter to keep it from deteriorating out in the weather.

Got slightly better than 50 % of what I had in it, so the "income" came at a painful loss.

No one likes to sell their ride but sometimes common sense is the better part of valor. Just stick around and by the time you get another one you will know everything there is to know about them...

Dave sorry to hear you had to let it go. I understand though. For anyone in real estate in small towns a side line of some sort would really come in handy.

Good on you for finding your truck a good home and for looking after your home. Best of luck as you move ahead.

Re: 68shortstep is gone

Sad when boys have to part with their toys. However, the truck virus is quite resistant and I am sure that you will get another one once this whole damn crisis thing is over. At least its in good hands...

You made the right choice. At least it's not rotting into the ground - there's plenty of nice stuff around here that's just rusting away because people can't bear to part with it but don't have any money or time to put into it.

Still tough though....

Re: 68shortstep is gone

I feel your pain. I had to sell my '69 AMC AMX years ago.

You made the right decision.

I never got another AMX, but what the heck that is just life.

The economy is so much worse than the politicans will admit, but that is a thread for another site.

Things are getting real tight in this neck of the woods economy wise.

Re: 68shortstep is gone

Thanks again to everybody.

My wife said: "I know you're gonna be sad about this...."

Strangely enough, I'm really not all that broken-up over selling it. Once my mind was made up that it needed to go, because it had to go, for the money; by then, it was already over & done with, mentally.

First guy I offered it to paid me what I asked, 'cause he knew what I had, & what he'd end up with when it was done. I knew I couldn't ever hope to sell it & get out of it what I had into it, so I priced it fairly.

As has been said, it's just a truck. You can always get another old truck, but immediate family needs are way-higher priority than me having a nice toy.

It'll be hard to find one that's as good as the truck was that I started with, but there's still a lot of them hiding around here in the hills; another will be found when it's time, and the finances are in better shape.

Spotted a 71-72 short-fleet hiding in a brushy overgrown fence row, just this morning ..................

On the bright side, when things get better (circa 2012) and you find another to buy, you'll be able to remind the wife how handy it was to have a four wheeled piggy bank.

Well that sucks. I had to do the same a couple years ago anticipating hard times, but they never came. Doing the responsible thing is always more rewarding and your family will not forget!
