To buy or not to buy?
Hey y'all, i have been going back and forth on buying a truck.
Its a 1979 (K or C, don't remeber) 20, its got 9 inches of lift, 37" tires (like new) he built a 355 with mild cam for it not the long ago (its got like 3,000 miles on the engine), he took out the bench seat and put in 2 buckets, needs new front wheel bearings which he has, one of the lockouts doesnt work, ($80 bucks for new lockouts for both sides and it needs the brakes redone, ($100-120) Now the things that are holding me back are its a manal tranny, now i have no prob with that in a car but i dont like it in a lifted truck i think they fail to fast in a lifted truck and i work with the guys brother and i know this guy beats the crap out of all of he's stuff so i'm not sure what would brake after i fixed all the stuff thats wrong. He said he would sell it to me for $1,000 What y'all think? (sorry about the bad photo its the only one i have of it) |

Re: To buy or not to buy?
those trannys never fail and it has to be a 4wd which is k20 becasue you would have to be insane to lift a 2wd

Re: To buy or not to buy?
Ok i was thinking it was K but wasnt sure.
I know he has had to replace the throwout bearing in the tranny already. Oh it also has stacks for exoust and i was told that it sometimes slips out of 4wheel low, it works but will slip out. |

Re: To buy or not to buy?
Yea that's a pretty good deal. I wouldn't want an Auto in a lifted truck unless you get it built stout almost everyone with lifted Chevy trucks I know runs that 4speed np205 combo cause they are bulletproof to say the least. How is it lifted all suspension or some and then body lifted?

Re: To buy or not to buy?
$1,000 isn't bad. I look at things more like how much its worth to me and how much enjoyment I get out of something rather than its book value, especially when it comes to old trucks. I probably paid more for my truck its worth, but the feeling I have behind the wheel cruising through town is worth much more to me. It'll give me many years of entertainment. You definitely want the 4-speed in that thing over an auto. If the throw out bearing has already been replaced then you should be good for a while. Maybe a clutch later, but that's not a biggie. Go for it, get outdoors and have some fun.
