big block swap question

when swapping a bbc in a 2wd, what mounting locations are you guys using for the perches? are you using the holes closer to the rad(like the sbc) or setting it back to the holes that are closer to the cab....

Re: big block swap question

will I have to move my tranny back at all? I measured the bbc from bell housing to motor mount and it was the same distance from my tranny to motor mounts with the sbc. so I would think I wouldnt have to move the tranny, but I would like to know if I have to before getting the motor in there and it doesnt fit lol

Nope, no need to move the trans. The extra length on a BBC vs. a SBC is forward of the engine mounts.

Music to my ears! I am just about to do this on my project as well. No need to cut down the driveshaft!

Re: big block swap question

I have a '71 C-10 and in order to get the 454 in with the old 4 speed transmission withouth moving the transmission we had to go with newer, '75, big block mounts and drill new holes about an inch forward of the the holes for the small block.

It worked out great because it left plenty of room between the back of the valve covers and the firewall while leaving enough room between the fan and the radiator.

The headers we were using required going to the newer style big block mounts.

Re: big block swap question

Im goin to use the tubular perches from online performance (or performance online can never remember lol) they use the new style motor mounts. I didnt really care for the stock ones.
