im gonna buy a temporary sent of 17s until i can spend the dough on 20s. ive got a good deal on the rims and i already have a set of 17" tires i can use.

the rims are 17x8 all around, 4.5" backspacing, is this the correct backspacing for our trucks? its a 1/2 ton 72.

I've got a '71 front end with 17x8s and '72 rear with 17x9s, both with 4.5" bs. I ground a little bit off of my bottom a-arms, though, can't remember why now, maybe rubbed when turning. The look of the offset is perfect IMO.

It depends on how dropped you are. They will work unless you're tucking tire or more... then you'll need to go with 5" bs or the fender will eat tires.

You can't go with more than a 4.5" bs in the back cuz you'll rub. What kind of 20's you looking for? I can get you an awesome hook up on Eagle Alloys.

I put a 20x9.5 with 5 inch back spaceing and a 295/40/20 on the back of mine and it didn't rub.

I'm using 5" bs on mine and no rubbing.

I just ordered two 17x8 4.5"bs AR Torque Thrust II's and 20x10's for the rear. The truck is already bagged, the rear will get a bridge as soon as the wheels arrive to keep it level and tuck the 20 up high in the bed.

This pic was taken about a week ago when I was sizing up the front wheels, this is a 17x8 with 4" backspacing, the tire was a 245-45-17, the tire went up in and my crossmember hit the same time my tire rubbed the fender. So I ordered my 17's in a 4.5" bs.

I changed mine to a 4.25 bs this year but I ran 4.5 on my last to sets of rims

XXL your saying 4.5" wont tuck (yes my truck is going to be bagged, so i cant have it rubbing on the fenders)

Glen you're saying 4.5" works fine on a 17x8 with 245/45/17?

anyone else got any info?

i plan on buying a temporary set of 17s and need to know soon.

Yep. I'm running 17x8 x5" bs and a 255/50/17 tire. I started with 4.5" bs wheels and they rubbed (just in the test fit... I wasn't even driving, which I suspect would be worse). I then went with 5.5" bs, but the rears rubbed (stepside bed)... so I went back to 5" and a 5/16" spacer on the rear. I've been running this setup for 3 1/2 years now and don't rub either up or dumped.

Sorry for the late reply......I just got in from work, please dont take my measurements as the rule. Iam just getting started on my 68 project and these other guys have been around this stuff much longer than I have been.
