I have ALOT of surface rust in the inside of my cab..
Ive gota lot of surface rust on the inside of my cab (orig. paint) tried rubbing compound but seems to take more paint off than I want...is there a better way around this? thanks!

oldblue... before I attempt to offer a solution, do you have any shots of what we're dealing? I'd hate to give you some things to try and then end up making it worse.

No sanding was needed when I did mine.I did a spray bomb job on my interior about7-8 years ago.I started by sanding and priming.Did it to some areas and since I was doing a section at a time,it was taking forever.So I tried some steel wool.There were some areas that had surface rust that still needed to be sanded/primed but most of it was just steel wooled and primed then steel wooled again(to smooth the surface and provide"tooth".I then painted and actually the areas that were preped with steel wool seem to still look a bit better.I washed the metal with a soft towel(lint free) and just plain water after steel wool to make sure I wouldn't trap any steel/rust wool particles in the paint.

mostly roof some dash but it would all get painted inside doors roof around glass dash etc
