Aluminum Fuel tank on a Bagged Truck??

Anyone have clearence problems with a aluminum (CPP) tank with a notched rear end. I stopped by the shop that's doing some work on my project truck and he installed the CPP tank I ordered. The truck has rally wheel while @ the shop so I know my 22" wheel bring up the back a little, but right now the fuel tank hits the ground a full 2" before the rear suspension bottoms out. Even if my wheels bring it up and inch or two and I put 2" bump stops, it whould be real close @drive height.

Anyone else run into this problem or have any ideas!

My truck obviously isn't as low as yours if your tank is hitting the ground first, but I've got a fuel cell guy tank, and I ordered it pretty small so it wouldn't hang below the bumper. It's only 16 gallons or so, I'll probably not be making many long trips in this one.

The only solution I can think of for you, would be to raise the bed floor so you can raise the tank.

I had to raise the blazer tank that I swapped. My guess is you'll need to consider moving things up or go w/a tank that's got custom dimensions to limit the depth....

Re: Aluminum Fuel tank on a Bagged Truck??

I wasn't planning on raising the bed floor. I'm going to put my Intro's on next week to see how it looks. I was looking @ the bed cross brace and I could notch it and gain about 2" (But I would have to do something with the fuel filler). I'm also interested in the Summit fuel tank!

Edit: Thanks for the link (You may see the CPP tank on the parts forum soon)

Re: Aluminum Fuel tank on a Bagged Truck??

BTW 67cheby I'm not as low as you. With the 22's in the back the bottom of the frame is about 2 1/2" from the ground and I plan I using bump stops in the back to level the truck a little. (like I said in my project post I'm trying to get this thing on the road as I'm going on 6 years on this build). So I'm trying to stay away from more $$$ mods if you know what I mean!

Re: Aluminum Fuel tank on a Bagged Truck??

I am also wondering about this. I mocked up my CPP tank and noticed it hits well before the frame rails do. I ordered it well before I thought about bagging my truck. I have a porterbuilt step notch and triangulated 4 link coming and now Im stuck with a tank that is the lowest part on my truck! Any one out there install it on the top of the frame rails? Obviously you would have to raise the bed floor......

I have thought about selling it........but 19 gallons will be nice when I want to go cruise it around on the rare days its nice around here lol. I'll let you know tho. I think I'll have to raise the bed floor anyways since I'm not a fan of the giant hole in the bed look, unless you have all custom bent frame and suspension pieces....

Re: Aluminum Fuel tank on a Bagged Truck??

I'm going to the shop on Mon. and taking my other wheels. I was looking at it last night and I think I will be ok if I notch the brace that runs across the rear of the bed floor. I measured it and only need about 2 1/2". If that doesn't work I will be ordering the tank from Summit.
