Re: Some electrical question in a new truck

Looks like a lockup switch connector for the tq converter going to no where. Is it plugged into the connection on the drivers side of the transmission? If it is that is what it for. I found this link a while back kept it bookmarked just for the part numbers. Might be help full. http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/lockup.htm

Re: Some electrical question in a new truck

well it does go to trans on other end but this does connect to the trans directly it looks to plug into something up top that would have the trans do something. but all the emission stuff was removed prior to me so i just want to know if its emission relation for trans, or if it will effect the trans in any way. maybe a cruise control option not being used.

To be honest I dont know... There should only be one electrical connection on a 700R4 and thats the connector on the drivers side and its a square plug. I know of no cruise control that would be mounted on the trans doesnt mean there isnt one like that out there but you should see a box with the speedo cable going in and out if there is.

Re: Some electrical question in a new truck

I'm really sorry i must not be explaining right. (it the other end to the trans side it hooks to trans then to ...... )

I'm might think its a vacuum control modular for the truck so the lock up works in the trans. but this is only a guess after looking at the vacuum diagram in the rad support but that has been changed once but does say 1986 models on sticker.

so please anyone out there with a stock 700r4 truck that is originally carb equipped. please fallow the trans electric line from trans and tell me were it goes from there so i don't burn this trans up

Re: Some electrical question in a new truck

Ok if this helps, I have one on my 86 truck and it came stock with a lock-up
Th350C and I believe it was originally connected to a vacuum switch that wouldn't allow lock-up til transmission (or engine possibly) was at normal operating temp.

I since have installed a 700r4 and don't use this connector if I remember correctly. It got dark outside I will double check at later date.

Re: Some electrical question in a new truck

Ok coming from my 4-pin connection at trans only 3 pins are used (the other is empty), it looks like one(simialr to red one) connector plugs into the vacuum switch on pass. side of firewall and one is for the brake switch and the other is a temp switch that I think is for allowing lock-up only when engine is fully warmed up.

I am not sure where the red one connects at this time I still think I was not using it. Surely someone knows here?

Keep in mind my trans was modified with a 4th gear lock-up switch. It basically goes into lock-up soon after I hit 4th gear. I don't know if this changes anything above but really don't think it matters.
