Poly gas tank question

Aside from not being original is there any downside to using a poly gas tank?

Re: Poly gas tank question

No concerns with using the poly tank from what I have heard/experienced.

I have the following:

metal tank in my 69 Blazer
poly tank in my 72 Blazer
poly tank in my 70 Blazer

I don't do any off-roading and have never had an issue with any of them.

Keep the hanger straps from the original if you can since the replacement ones are not the greatest - but they will work with some effort.

I will also say that all aftermarket tanks do not have the 'correct' tank neck as noted in this post from when I swapped tanks in my blue blazer last year.

This is easily dealt with if you still have the original tank or access to one being parted and get the filler neck off of it.

Somewhere along the line on the blue blazer a member cut the neck from the original tank and then used hose and clamps to extend it to the appropriate 'junction area' for the filler neck in the bedside.

That piece is highlighted in the pic below.

With that piece moved over to the new poly tank - it lined right up like the factory one did - ghetto - but it works [and it better than trying to locate a good condition blazer/jimmy tank in these parts - ].
