Could not agree more with this statement. Oil additives only mask a hidden problem. But hey if it works for you and your older engine or whatever application you have then by all means go for it.

I drive a 92 toyota Paseo 1.5L for my daily work beater. It has 265,000 miles on it and runs like a top. I run lucas in it, and heres why. My last beater was a 91 tercel, it started losing a little comp. an burning some oil around 250,000 miles. I started adding 1/2 quart of lucas at every oil change and the oil burning stopped and compression evened out. Sold that one at almost 300K 3 yrs ago, and its still out there running. Lipstick on a pig or not, the problems never returned.
