I'm a moron

My wife and I were sitting around talking about how weird it is that the longer I stay in the same job, the lower the W2 seems to get every year. We need to cut costs and tighten up financially. But then we said the hell with that and bought this truck instead:

Re: I'm a moron

That sounds like something that I would do. Looks like a pretty nice burb!

Re: I'm a moron

It's pretty decent. The other side is worse in the rockers. But the underside is a thing of beauty. Floors, body mounts, outer floor braces, 90% of the inner rockers intact. It's about as completely original as I've ever seen a 4x4, which seem to get hacked up. I'm almost positive that's the original paint. I had intended to try to resurrect my '72 K10 burb, but this one just came along. It should be much easier (massive understatement). I've been practicing with my Lincoln Pro Mig 140 on some of my other crapmobiles around here. We'll see how it goes.

Great looking 4X4 Burb. I had a 72 and sold it a few year back. I now regret it. Looks like a good one to restore. Keep posting pictures with your progress.

Re: I'm a moron

I wouldn't say you're a moron, had you spent $50K on a new burb then yes, you would have been a moron...

Re: I'm a moron

The name of the thread is a real attention getter!.....
I'd argue the "moron" thing except that everybody around me insists that I'm "special" for having $4500 in a 68 burb that might only expect to fetch three grand if I sold it right now. I keep tellin them it will be worth $4500 as soon as I spend a couple more grand on it! 150 of my best internet friends are into sinking over ten grand into v-drive flatbottoms and I also hang locally with Harley peeps, and we all know how irrational and dangerous motorcycles can be, right?
My wife respects my happiness with my addiction to vehicles and boats in various stages of assembly. She even likes the burb because she doesn't know yet that it will eventually replace her 2001 Astro van....

That is a real solid looking burb you got. It's price, even after resto, and it's lasting value is way beyond anything you could buy new, even if you did have the 40k that a new one would cost!

Re: I'm a moron

I don't blame you a 4wd burb would be impossible to pass on.
Y'all sound like us...we know how to be financially responsible but actually doing it is another thing. Our reality of financial responsiblity is only actively working on one project at a time, that doesn't mean you can'y buy more projects to put in line

Re: I'm a moron

It's a K10, 4spd with 3.08 gears and power steering. It hauls the whole family, rides smooth, willing to bet it gets 17 mpg. We have a '79 K20 Camper Special with th400, 14ff, etc. that does all the dirty work around here, so I can just get the burb out when I want to.

Financial responsibility aside, the big upside is that with the way my job has been going the last couple of years, the burb keeps me from having a "Here's Johnny!" moment (thinking the Jack Nicholson version).
