fuel cell question

the truck i bought has a 10-15 gallon plastic fuel cell. not my first choice but it will work for now. inside the tank i can see a large piece of foam. maybe to keep gas from moving? im thinking of removing it, or is it there for a reason? the truck runs out of fuel occasionally. i installed a clear plastic in line fuel filter and it only fills about 3/4 full. could the fuel pump be weak,or could the foam be blocking hose from tank?

You are correct, it does keep the fuel from sloshing around in the tank. I would not remove it since it is there for a reason. Your fuel pump could possible not be pulling enough psi, which is easy enough to check and you should do this first. As for the pickup hose inside the tank it will not get choked by the foam for 2 reasons, first there is a "batwing" on the end of the hose more than likely and the second is that the foam will still let fuel pass through because it is not dense. Another suggestion is to check inside the tank for trash.

Re: fuel cell question

My fuel filter doesn't fill all the way...I think it is normal...

And I took the foam out of one a while back..you get more slooshing around
but thats it...and without it holds a little more fuel
