Shaft Issues....
Like the title implies,
The shaft on my 3" drop spindles is too short. my brakes are fairly new so I'm considering pressing out the spindle shaft on the drop spindle and pressing in the the shaft from my stock spindles. has any one ever done this or had it done? A friend of mine has a 20,000lb shop press I'm thinking of going over to see what i can accomplish. any input will be helpful.

Hopefully some one can stop me from making a mistake, or help boost my confidence in pressing out the spindle shaft with my buddy's 20k lb press.

Re: Shaft Issues....
I'd buy a pair of light duty rotors and bearings before I risked cracking a spindle.

Re: Shaft Issues....
x2 on the light duty rotor and caliper swap.
Or just sell them and buy the correct spindle for your 1.25" wide rotors. Don't risk screwing up your truck or someone elses.

Re: Shaft Issues....
the spindle stub is swaged once it is pressed in ... i have doubts of whether you'll get it out of the spindle body casting without damage to one of the other

Re: Shaft Issues....
So i decided to get the 1" brake stuff rather than try and press out and swap the spindle shafts. For some reason it was really easy to come to terms with the newly incurred expense once you guys voiced your opinions. I got new 1" rotors & wheel bearings, will be getting reman calipers, and dust caps next Wednesday when Pepboys gets them in stock.
I plan on taking the calipers apart to have them powder coated "Torch Red" and re use the piston seals since they are brand new. Hopefully this resolves my year old front drop/brake dilemma so i can move on to the rear cnotch and missing shock absorbers dilemma Hopefully get to drive it a bit this summer, the wife already asked "when are we going on our next day trip in the blazer?" ok gang, what are your thoughts?

I powdercoat a lot of calipers that same way.I get reman calipers from O Reilly, disassemble, coat and reassemble.

Re: Shaft Issues....
Thanks for the encouragement Tx Firefighter, the calipers are in!!! As soon as i paid for them i took them apart by blowing low pressure compressed air in the brake line fitting and had the pistons out in no time. I pulled the rear calipers off the truck already now i just need to take out the piston and hopefully will drop them off for powder coat MAÑANA
Hopefully we will have reassembly pictures courtesy of the wife and her digital camara some time next week

Re: Shaft Issues....
Well, I managed to remove all the O rings and seals from the calipers tonight but I managed to tear the outer seal of the right side caliper. I'm such a rookie i guess i will have to go look for another seal. but hopefully I will be dropping off the calipers for powder coat tomorrow. and get that seal in the mean time.
